time to play catch up...

in the last few days, rory has gone from saying 'yah' in response to questions to saying 'yes' or 'yesh'. it's so fricking cute to hear her say 'yesh' and i want to say right back to her, but i need to set a good eample and say 'yes' so she gets the idea. now that i think of it, most of her 's' sounds right now are more like 'sh' or 'sch'.

we took a ride north this weekend. brian and i were noting that we have all these 3-day weekends (since we both don't work on fridays) and we get a lot done (sometimes) but don't necessarily do what we hoped we'd be doing-spending time together as a family. so we set out to remedy that.

we were originally going to go west and find a place for a hike and a picnic, but the weather report said there was a pretty good chance for rain and thunderstorms. we decided to go up to st johnsbury and take a look at the fairbanks museum. it's a wonderfully eclectic collection of taxidermied animals (mostly birds), old toys and dolls, native american and central american artifacts, civil war memorabilia, new england history and of course, the northern new england weather center, otherwise known as the eye on the sky. we had lunch at the northern lights cafe and bookstore in st johnsbury and decided to explore route 2 going west to montpelier. it only took about 45 minutes to get to montpelier, and it was a nice drive. we haven't done much exploring and have hear that route 100 is GORGEOUS, but time was limited, so we settled for route 2, and it was pretty nice too. drove by a few 'ponds', which on the east coast seem different. a pond is something you can have in your yard, but it can also be almost as big as a lake. while in montpelier, i made brian stop so i could go to the zutano outlet and get rory a cute outfit for fall (such a deal-'seconds' clothing for $7 per piece and a fuzzy fleece sweater for about 20% off retail). then it was back home for homemade pizzas with farmer's market tomatoes and goat cheese for dinner. YUMYUM

the other thing we're gearing up for is assembling rory's fall/winter wardrobe. she has a few outfits for fall/winter, but nothing like the backstock we had for her when she was younger. i'm planning a trip next month to target in concord, nh for a fall/winter shopping spree. one thing's for sure, i'm getting her those cute merrill knock-offs from land's end. we also have to get some snow gear. i'm thinking these bib pants with matching jacket. nice girly color, plus the added bonus is that we won't lose her in the snow!

i'm sure i've missed something i wanted to post, but that looks long enough for now...
