it's brian's birthday today! yippee!

brian is riding in the Vermont 50 this weekend, a 50-mile mountain bike ride (there are also some ultra runners who run the thing, but personally i think they should have their heads checked). he's obsessing about the weather because of the bike ride-he's been watching the progress of tropical storm isadore because we're supposed to get dumped on with rain on friday/saturday because of it. (an east coast weather thing-tropical storms, hurricane, etc travel up the eastern seaboard from the gulf (or whatever) and pass through our neck o' the woods before heading out to sea) if the weather community is off in their predictions of when it passes over us, it won't just be a muddy ride, it will be pretty wet!

and speaking of tropical storms...did anyone hear the story on NPR this week about what happens to new orleans if they get hit with a category 5 hurricane? let's just say if it happens, you could pretty much kiss the big easy goodbye.
