this weekend we went to john sheldon's memorial service. it was a sad event, sure, because we have to face the fact that we will not see this amzing, happy, humourous friend again. but to me, it was also a joyous celebration of his life. his wife, lisa, had asked that people dress casually in happy colors. and people were encouraged to share stories about their memories of john. it was great to hear about all the wonderful ways john had touched people, and the ways he made them laugh.
after the service, there was a celebration at their house. over 120 people drank, ate, played whiffle ball and enjoyed everyone's company. it was simply wonderful. there was a bonfire, fireworks, good champagne (something that john always insisted on for birthday celebrations, etc), lots of hugging, and wonderful memories. i think john would have loved it, and i like to think he was there among us.
